On 10th November 2021 Representatives from Energise Africa and Lendahand took the stage at the special 10th-anniversary edition of the UN Global Climate Action Awards in Glasgow as part of the UN’s COP26 activities.
Lisa Ashford, CEO of Energise Africa and Koen The, CEO and Founder of Lendahand accepted the award for Energise Africa, one of 4 winners in the Financing for Climate Friendly Investment category. This is an incredible achievement, seeing Energise Africa recognised on a global stage for our investing platform that has enabled thousands of everyday people in the UK to put their money to work for climate action and the SDGs, raising over £25 million to date to support renewable energy projects in sub-Saharan Africa and beyond.
The annual award programme, run by United Nations Climate Change since 2011, recognises the world’s most innovative, scalable and replicable examples of action to tackle climate change. The projects are recognised as solutions that not only address climate change but also help drive forward progress on many other sustainable development goals, for example, innovation, gender equality and economic opportunity.
Energise Africa was proud to share the stage with global organisations such as Microsoft, Taylors of Harrogate, SunFunder, City of Paris and Global Innovation Lab for Climate Finance who also picked up awards at the event, which was presented by Isa Soares of CNN.
UN Climate Change Executive Secretary Patricia Espinosa said:
“The winners of the 2021 UN Global Climate Action Awards provide tangible proof that solutions to tackle the climate crisis exist and that they can be replicated and quickly scaled up. This is what inspiring leadership looks like.
This year’s award-winning projects demonstrate leadership on climate change by nations, businesses, investors, cities, regions and civil society as a whole.”
Energise Africa is grateful to receive this recognition of the impact our investors have made on the environment and lives in sub-Saharan Africa and beyond and of the support given by our funding partners UK aid, Good Energies Foundation and P4G.
CEO Lisa Ashford also delivered an address on 11th November at a special event in Glasgow: Financing for Climate Friendly Investment - UN Global Climate Action Awards.
